I still maintain that natural yarn dyeing is the coolest thing in the world.
In that vein, let me introduce you to the Apple Oak Fibre Work Hibiscus dye kit.

Like their sage and elderflower kits, it comes with everything you need to dye 100-300g of natural protein fibre (ie: wool and silk).

The packaging on these is so nice. and practically plastic-free.

I used their Turin base which is a wool/silk/ramie blend. Perfect for making cosy socks.

I chose to cold mordant my yarn. I’ve been having some issues with softness and I started to wonder if it’s because of too much heat on the fibre. Cold mordanting is definitely a simpler option, but it also takes a level of patience and planning I don’t excel at.

The process was easy and the instructions on these kits are so good. I did my usual one skein without modifiers, one skein with, and one half and half.
The difference on these wasn’t as striking as a lot of other natural dyes, however; in my pursuit of always having things be a tone of grey this was a definite success.

The process was really fun, and I’m happy to have another successful one of these kits on my hands!
