Extra Fancy Dangle Phone Case

I drop my phone a lot. I don’t buy new phones anymore, and when you’re going secondhand colour isn’t always a consideration. For me, cases are a necessity.

I love my rhinestone covered case, but I wanted something a bit zazzier for…

I would say when we go out, but I don’t really go out, so… for when I want something different?

This is one of those awesome easy DIY’s. All you need is a blank phone case- I get mine on AliExpress in bulk because they’re cheap and literally the exact same ones you get in a phone shop.

I got a pair of earrings on Amazon to serve as a dangle. I also got my glitter on Amazon. I love this glitter, but I found the champagne a bit too light, and the gold a bit too yellow so I ended up mixing them. I also got my Mod Podge on Amazon because, well, COVID.

You’ll also need something to cover your work surface, a brush of some sort- this one was from when Adam got me “free makeup brushes” from an Insta ad, and some vodka or rubbing alcohol.

Also, a strong desire to find glitter literally everywhere for like a month.

About that vodka, it seems strange, but I like to wipe down my phone case with a bit of alcohol and let it fully dry to get any oils or gunk off that might mess with the glue sticking. I do think I’m being a bit too cautious but at the same time my glitter never falls off, so…

I worked on the inside of the case so that the glitter wouldn’t get literally everywhere when I use the case. Simply brush a layer of Mod Podge, then apply a layer of glitter. Let it dry.

I ended up doing four layers of glitter and learned that you shouldn’t do four layers of glitter. The case is made to fit your phone pretty snuggly, and I honestly don’t think that two layers look any different than four, and the bulk makes this an extra super tight fit on my phone. Basically, two layers of glitter and you’re good.

Next, you want to lock in the glitter. I used two coats of straight-up Mod Podge, then I let this fully and completely dry for two days.

Now for the dangle!

My original idea was to sort of bend back the earring post and make a hole in the case.

This… didn’t work. The earring post quickly broke off the rest of the earring, so I decided to go to every crafter’s bestie, super glue and attached my dangle to the corner.

I love the final product. It was so much easier and faster than I thought it would be, and it looks great!

Even without the dangle, this is a great method for a glitter phone case.
