Autumn/Winter 2019 Couture - Christian Dior
Let’s get inspired by my fave looks from Christian Dior…
There’s a lot to unpack here. What caught my attention first is the skirt. I thought it might be loops of some sort of yarn, but on further inspection I think it’s almost lace layered like scales? I also love the top, but I’ve always been a sucker for a black, super embellished top.
It looks like black is going to be heavily featured and I’m here for it. I’m seriously in love with this coat.
I’m a bit confused by the necklace. It looks like someone put tulle through a Christmas ornament and wore it as a necklace?
So, I think the necklace is just a big pendant on a black ribbon. There’s a very clear Rococo thing going on, cool.
The boots are what caught my eye here. Could you call them boots? At first sight my idea was to take two pairs of tights, one textured, one sheer, attach them to a shoe and glue on feathers. But how would they stay up? Would you need a garter belt just for your boots? Or would you make them full tights and never wash them because there’s a shoe attached? It almost looks like that’s what they’re going for, but I’m sure there’s a way to make these machine washable. I think this is going to be one of those ones that haunts me a bit until I figure it out.
Honestly, I totally would have a garter belt just for my boots. Definitely not opposed to it.
I love the collar on this dress. I feel like it wouldn’t be hard to recreate a removable collar situation that’s fairly similar but maybe a bit more demure.
If you can call a beaded collar with feather trim demure in any capacity.
I love how the skirt on this dress fades out into metallic. I’ve never played with metallic fabric paint, but it might be time.
I love this gown- especially how it fringes out at the bottom. I’m also really into this belt. It’d be as easy as adding a buckle and some holes to a piece of velvet ribbon, or covering a belt in velvet.
I think this would be the way to go at first. I mean, I still want the thigh highs but these are possibly a tad more wearable.
I love the top of this dress. Maybe I could find a bustier top and cover it in fishnets and beads?
I could definitely find a circle skirt and cover it in feathers.
I should find a circle skirt and cover it in feathers.
This is really just becoming a post about gowns I like. I do love this, and I want to work out how to add sparkle to a dress after the fact. I mean, it’s like a gorgeous midnight fairy.
The sheerness of the skirt also gives me a bit of insight into the boots- I think it’s just a thigh high stocking. They totally miss out on a garter belt moment.
I love the idea of edging a blazer with feathers. I like the silver, but I’d do it in black because… black.
I love this dress. There’s something so soft and elegant about it. I also love a good rope belt. Very fairy tale princess.
I learned a lot from this show. First off, I might really like Dior Couture. Secondly, I need to rethink using tights in DIY’S.
Thirdly, I need to go to fancy places because I’m dying to dress up.
