Hey there!

My name’s Sandy Salierno and I love making clothes!

A Tale of Two Sweaters

A Tale of Two Sweaters

It’s been an intense few weeks! We had an excellent time celebrating Paddy’s Day. We went a pub in the Liberties that’s also a haberdashery. I’d love to buy a suit’s worth of fabric there one day.

Baxter was the obvious hit. He even got himself up on the stage at one point with the band.

I’ve also done a lot of clearing out the boxes. I’m going to a wedding in Greece in April and the bride wants everyone in white. I don’t own anything white for a myriad of reasons, let alone something appropriate for being a wedding guest. I do have some white knit that would be perfect for a dress that I can dye when I get home. In any case, finding the sewing machine is a must.

While going through all my boxes I came across a sweater I’ve been working on but had to put on waste yarn. I mentioned to Adam that I haven’t finished it because I have no idea where the rest of the yarn for it was. He perked up and led me straight to it while saying, “Sandy, if something opens or lifts in this place it has yarn.”

What a way to live.

Just a heads up, I use affiliate links. For more information check out my Affiliate Link and Sponsorship Disclaimer.

The pattern is from a Craftsy Class- Boho Style Embroidered Sweater. I’m knitting this up in the now-found MillaMia Naturally Soft Aran.

It’s presented a bit of a conundrum. I put this on waste yarn so I could use the needles and cable for another project, and I used that cable/needle combo to then start this….

The Ombre Pattern by Tanis Fibre Arts. I’m making this one in the now discontinued Debbie Bliss Rialto Lace.

I want both sweaters so frogging one is out of the question, I’m just unsure as to whether I should properly finish the embroidered one and put the cardigan on waste yarn, or finish the cardigan because fiddling with putting things on and off cables is… well, it’s a bit of a drag.

I’m happy I found that yarn because it was stressing me out, but man… it would’ve been easier if it stayed lost for a bit!

My temperature blanket is doing well! I’m knitting this up in Drops Karisma. I’m only five days behind and feeling optimistic about catching up this weekend.

I think the thing I’m most excited about is calling this an embroidery project. I’ve finished the faces on the blanket and the back of the sweater. Now I just need to finish up the front and I’ll be done!

Well, except for the extra quilting I’m doing on the blanket, but I’ve had a bad day and need any victory I can get.

This is the Bear Necessities Set by Debbie Bliss. I’ve made it in the recommended Cashmerino.

As for acquisitions, one of my fanciest people has a birthday coming up, so I needed some luxury yarn. I think they’ve discontinued it in the Aran weight- probably why I got such a good deal- but they still have this Aranmore in DK. I’m not crazy about the colour so I’m going to dye it in a more him palette, then make a hat and a scarf. It’s a wool/silk/cashmere blend and it is lush.

My last acquisition is one I’m super excited about.

I’ve wanted to start English Paper Piecing because I have way too many scraps and I think they could be working harder for me. I remember how to do the patchwork but I haven’t done any quilting or binding in a very long time. In order to refresh my memory the only logical option seemed like making a quilt. I found a Startup Library Quilting class on Craftsy and got my fabric at KleineStoffwerksttatt on Etsy and The Crafty Fox. It’s the Wild Meadow line by Moda and… Everything about it is just absolutely so spot on perfect for me. I can’t wait to see this one all made up!

I’m excited to keep crafting this week… on a layette and on whatever sweater I end up choosing!
